Meconopsis gakyidiana GS600

A very reliably perennial, big blue poppy that bulks up well, discovered by George Sherriff in Eastern Bhutan and once known as Meconopsis grandis ssp. orientalis. Very large deep-blue flowers, lightly tinged purple and up to 14cm across in late May/June. Moist, humus-rich soil in part shade, unless you live in the cool, rainy north, where you can grow it in full sun. Best blue in acid soil, though it is tolerant of more alkalinity if humus rich. Height 1m. Intolerant of dry soil but perfectly happy here in 2022 at 36c!
