Meliosma veitchiorum SICH 1829

Here's a rare opportunity to purchase a most desirable small Chinese tree. A plant of striking appearance, with very large pinnate foliage on red stalks, turning warm-orange in autumn in this form. Panicles of white (or yellow-green) flowers up to 45cm long are produced in early summer, followed by marble-sized fruit, starting violet-white and turning red and then black. Twigs are very stout and rigid, producing a particularly distinctive winter silhouette and the trunk bears a rugged bark. Hardy and tolerant, for acid or alkaline soil.
