From farthest N. Vietnam at c1900m alt, this large shrub bore many bright-red fruit on the branches, just behind the impressive deeply and distinctively veined evergreen leaves. The latter are held in a somewhat pendulous fashion behind the prominently erect, particularly fat, yellow-green terminal buds. Not for shallow chalk soils and probably best not too cold, so coastal or city microclimates, but possibly hardier.
