Nothofagus moorei

A rarely offered evergreen species from the rainforests of E. Australia, which grows perfectly well in our milder counties, making a small to medium sized tree. The Camellia-like foliage is quite distinct, being dark green, comparatively large, leathery, glossy and sharply toothed, though emerging copper-tinted. Like most Nothofagus the trunk becomes characterful with age. Not for thin chalk soil.
