Notholithocarpus densiflorus var. echinoides

Exceptionally rare in cultivation in the UK, this is the hardier, dwarf version of the species from the Klamath and Siskiyou ranges in NW California and SW Oregon, growing at higher altitude than the species. An evergreen shrubby oak relative with grey green foliage that emerges pale grey and in this state is very handsome. This rarely reaches 3m in the wild.
