Osmanthus x fortunei ‘San Jose’

Scented plants hardly get better than this. A rare American clone of this comparatively vigorous hybrid of O. fragrans and O. heterophyllus with slightly slimmer foliage and a more upright, less spreading form, making a large dense evergreen shrub, with spine-edged shiny holly-like foliage becoming less spiny as the plant matures. Fabulously fragrant white flowers are borne in autumn, have a tropical sweetness like nothing else we can grow outside in this country and scent the air around, sometimes up to 10m away! Very tough and fully hardy. for sun or shade.
