Osmunda regalis

Royal Fern. A big upright imposing fern for a permanently moist or wet site and in such conditions happy in full sun, though semi to full shade is also very much enjoyed. The substantial fronds are light green, turning buttery-yellow and cinnamon in autumn. Can form short trunks given time. Height 120cm. So bold that it fits in very well with exotic plantings. A native species which can be found next to rivers or in bogs inland, but also on moist cliffs facing the the full brunt of Atlantic winds in coastal Cornwall.
