Oxydendrum arboreum

The 'Sorrel tree' from the Eastern USA is a sight to see in the autumn when the branches are covered in rich crimson, orange and yellow foliage and topped with the remains of the contrasting, drooping, Pieris-like racemes of white flowers that appear in July and August. Making only a small tree, this is suited to acid soil, never too dry, but happy with heat. Hardy.
