Persea thunbergii

Grown predominantly for its excellent, distinctly veined, evergreen foliage which emerges shining and brilliant copper-red in June, contrasting with the older green leaves. This rarely available large shrub or small tree native of China, Japan and Korea has survived cold winters with no damage at all in open woodland near here, so should be tried elsewhere. A member of the Laurel family.
