Petasites japonicus var. giganteus

Posy-like heads of white flowers surrounded by a ruff of floral bracts are prized by flower arrangers and emerge at ground level in early spring. Big rounded foliage follows in summer on stalks to 1.2m. A most impressive ground covering perennial giant butterbur from Asia suitable for larger gardens/landscapes due to its vigour, though rhizome barrier could be employed to restrict spread in smaller gardens. Happy in anything from sandy soil to thickest clay, this needs a certain amount of moisture in summer. Light shade/sun.
