Phyllostachys bambusoides ‘Castillonii Inversa’

An impressive, large growing bamboo with thick culms forming a loose clump up to about 5m high. This form has green culms with an alternating yellow groove, making for an interesting alternative to the straight green form and far less 'in your face' colourful than the yellow culmed cultivars. This species has very strong culms that are used in construction in China, though only reach about 5cm diameter here, which is of course still pretty impressive. Very hardy, it grows to perfection in full sun, on warm soil, and over 20 years here it has remained basically non-running.
