Phyllostachys nigra ‘Boryana’

Much bigger than the normal 'Black Bamboo', this form develops into a huge upright specimen to about 7m, with thick green culms splashed with large dark-brown camouflage-style blotches in their second year. Sounds strange but is in fact very attractive. For such a big bamboo this has small, relatively dainty foliage, making for a highly attractive combination of size and elegance. Hardy and vigorous, making quite a grove in time and potentially running, so use rhizome barrier to keep this in one place. Best in full sun.
