Particularly rare in cultivation, with just eleven specimens recorded on the Tree Register of the British Isles, though fully hardy. This drought tolerant species hails from Arizona, New Mexico and various Western Mexican states and is highly suited to a warming and drying future climate, though very thankful of summer deluges, as it is in nature, which of course we are also supposed to get more of. The grey-green needles are up to 23cm in length. For a sunny site and most likely happy in a range of soil types, as are many Mexican pines, including alkaline.
