Pinus durangensis

Exceptionally rarely available, this Mexican pine is completely hardy and makes an impressive medium sized tree in the UK, where specimens have grown since being originally introduced in 1962. With long grey-green needles up to 24cm long, this, like many Mexican pines, makes a striking specimen. Conical in youth with a straight, single trunk, the crown fills out to make a rounded specimen if grown in good light, with orange-brown bark. Good steady growth is achieved in S. Britain at least on most well drained soils. Unique in the genus for having 5-7 needles per bundle.
