Pinus hwangshanensis

Very rare in cultivation in the UK, being introduced only in 1979, with just a handful of trees known in specialist collections. This Chinese endemic is one of the most picturesque species in maturity; just Google the name to see highly atmospheric images of the species amongst the incredible rock pillars of the Huangshan, Anhui Province. Mature trees develop tabulate, distinctly layered branches of deep green foliage. Fully hardy across the entire UK; the tallest having reached approximately only 12m so far.
