Pinus estevezii NJM 09.009a

A Mexican pine of great worth with rather magnificent foliage, both very rarely seen and very rarely available in the UK. Closely related to P. montezumae, this makes a small to medium sized tree here of good steady growth, notable for its semi-drooping needles up to 25cm long. Plants from the colder parts of the wild range have proven hardy in the UK and these are from the coldest possible, at altitude in NE Mexico. This is growing beautifully here in cold rural Gloucestershire on alkaline loam over gravel, though will be equally happy on acid sand etc.
