Closely related to P. strobiformis and P. flexilis, this very hardy high altitude endemic of NE Mexico makes a medium to large tree in the wild, up to an altitude of 3600m. I had the pleasure of seeing it on the mighty Cerro Potosi in 2009. Here in the UK young trees are growing well in a few serious tree collections where they are very handsome, due to the dense, semi-pendulous blue-green foliage and large, striking, resin-encrusted cones. Often on limestone in the wild, this will grow in most soils here.
