Pittosporum brevicalyx

Virtually unknown in UK horticulture, yet widely grown in the Western USA and also seen in Continental Europe, where its hardiness credentials have been proven. A specimen has grown in Strasbourg since the 1980's for example. A drought tolerant evergreen large shrub, or even small tree given time, from SW China, with dark green thinly leathery foliage up to 12cm long and rounded heads of many highly fragrant small yellow flowers in spring or early summer. Suited to sun or semi-shade on any reasonable soil.
