Platanus orientalis

'Oriental Plane'. Long lived, highly ornamental and far more characterful than London Plane, with deeply lobed leaves, wide spreading sinuous branches and superb patchwork flaking bark. A must for any large garden or parkland, this reaches potentially 20 to 30m tall, with a broad crown spread. Tolerant of a wide range of soils and soil moisture plus heat; something to consider with climate change kicking in. The Tree of Hippocrates, under which he once taught on the island of Kos, is a Platanus orientalis.
