Polystichum proliferum

Mother shield fern. A very handsome hardy Australian evergreen, forming plants 45-90cm high, and in time producing a massive rootstock. The rather dark green, lance shaped, beautifully dissected bipinnate fronds will produce little bulbils at their extremities, making propagation easy. Still rarely seen in the UK, but one of the best. Woodsy soil and semi to full shade.
