Pteris wallichiana

A fabulous, very hardy giant fern from the Himalaya and Far East. Beautiful, fan-shaped, horizontal lamina on stipes (stalks) to about 1.5m or more (I've seen them up to 2m in the wild with monsoon summers). This formed a patch 1m across with me here, in a few years, and was happy in my very limey soil. Completely hardy even through -14c and three weeks frozen in 2010! Visually unlike any other fern grown outside in the UK, but not drought tolerant! Semi-shade.
