Pterostyrax psilophyllus var. leveillei

A vigorous Chinese deciduous tree, producing masses of small white flowers in pendulous panicles up to 15cm long in June on almost bare branches. Reaching 10m or more, though probably much shorter in cultivation, this is very rare in the UK yet extremely handsome in flower and with great foliage. This stumped us in Guizhou, SW China, with its very unusual and terminally lobed leaves, pale grey beneath. Acid or alkaline soil of reasonable quality.
