Quercus macrocarpa

The Burr or Mossy Cup oak from NE and NC North America makes a medium sized deciduous tree in the UK, though is rarely available or planted. A handsome species, this can have foliage conspicuously and strikingly lobed and on young vigorous trees leaves can reach up to 40cm long. The acorns, if produced, are very large and surrounded by huge, whispy, scaly cups. Very hardy.
