Swamp Chestnut Oak. Closely related to Quercus prinus, this hardy American species is rarely seen or offered in the UK and is best grown here where summers are reasonably warm, i.e. not Scotland, upland or coastal. Handsome, bold foliage is obovate and shallowly but coarsely toothed, rich-green with a paler underside and turning to deep yellow or, in my experience, rich-red in autumn. Though much larger in the wild, it makes a medium sized tree in the UK.
