Quercus pagoda

The Cherrybark Oak from the moist bottomland forests of the SE USA is a close relation of Q. falcata and makes a fast growing tree up to about 20m in the UK. Leaves are along the lines of many red oak types, but with the lobes facing forward the derivation of the name pagoda can be seen by turning a leaf on end. Splendid red autumn colour. Not for shallow chalk soils. Hardy.
