Quercus salicina

One of the most beautiful of all oaks and although particularly rare in the UK it is perfectly hardy. A medium sized tree eventually with very narrow, evergreen leaves with tiny teeth and a long drip tip, often emerging deeply red-tinted, but most importantly, they have the most lovely white undersides. The crown is dense and luscious. The largest specimen ever known in the UK was one I discovered at Tortworth Court near here in 1994. It had been forgotten and remained unidentified for many years by the 'greats' of that time, but once you know it, it cannot be confused.
