A high altitude form from the Eastern Himalaya, this could have red-pink to pink, or white flowers in full conical trusses, usually in March-April, produced after perhaps five or 6 years. Leaves are bronze under. Though fully hardy, requiring sheltered woodland conditions, this will slowly make a large shrub to even small tree over a long period, being about 1.5m after ten years. An essential element of a good woodland garden on acid soil.
