From the summit of Khayangphung, Manipur at 2800m asl, smack on the border with Burma. A large evergreen shrub of the Maddenia Subsect.; the dark green foliage with a bristly margin and densely golden scaly beneath. Open faced very sweetly-scented white and strongly pink marked flowers emerge from primrose buds in spring. The flaking bark is a deep red-brown. Hardy outside here in a pot, even during the devastating early winter cold of Dec 2022 at -8c. This colour form, unlike most in cultivation, was once known as ‘Rubeotinctum’.
