Sassafras tzumu

This fascinating tree from China is hardly ever offered in the UK. Closely related to S. albidum from NE America, though a better grower in the UK with a broadly conical crown and deeply lobed leaves, rich red on new growth. Trunks remain bright green for quite a few years, giving a tropical effect. Should colour well in autumn. Lime-free soil. Expect a small to medium sized tree eventually.
