Sauromatum venosum ‘Indian Giant’

Bigger in all its parts than the usual 'Voodoo lily' and with better markings, this Asian aroid is grown for foliage and leaf stalk (petiole) effect, with the handsomely veined leaflets topping the upright petiole up to 1m across if exceptionally happy (moist and shaded). The petiole is palest light-green with well spaced large dark blotches and is a joy in itself. The early summer exotic-looking maroon flower, at ground level, smells like shit for one day only, but is highly attractive, both visually and to flies. Hardy.
