Toona sinensis

Of sub-tropical appearance, this hardy, medium sized, fast growing tree bears large, handsome, pinnate leaves, often bronze when young, smooth grey bark and large drooping panicles of fragrant white flowers in late summer. The young leaves and shoots are edible and have a very interesting flavour; widely grown in China as a vegetable and highly responsive to coppicing on the allotment for this purpose. Any ordinary soil.
