Torreya taxifolia

Rather like a short needled T. californica, this conifer is very rare and on the edge of extinction in the wild state in SE USA. Rare in the UK also, where it makes a small tree with sharp-tipped almost yew-like foliage. Suited to most soils, including thin chalk. Hardy, for sun or semi-shade.
