This form is faster growing than the norm, making a large shrub or small tree with a distinctive and attractive layered growth habit. The dark evergreen leaves are glossier and larger than the common Japanese form and handsomely held on spreading branches, with erect conical clusters of fascinating rounded green flowers in May. Very handsome, hardy and easy and suited to acid or alkaline soils, though not good on thin chalk. Sun or semi-shade, or even quite deep shade. A very distinct evergreen, loved by those who know it.
