A really great species, yet very rare in the UK, this evergreen medium sized shrub bears red-tinged, deep-green glossy, serrated foliage with impressed veins. Clusters of subtly scented, tubular, pure-white flowers in succession over winter and spring, followed by orange fruit. From Hehuanshan in Taiwan's central mountains at 2600m, it is no wonder this is perfectly hardy here. In fact it is even recorded up to 3000m and suffered not the slightest damage here, outside in pots, during the otherwise devastating early winter cold of December 2022!
