Mahonia nervosa

A low growing species from western North America, where it makes a gently suckering evergreen dwarf shrub with lustrous pinnate foliage, often turning red in winter if grown in good light, though very shade tolerant; I have seen this under towering Douglas firs etc in Vancouver. Light yellow flowers in May-June, then blackish blue berries. Not for thin chalk.
