Begonia macrantha

Truly spectacular, with one of the largest leaves of any Begonia, up to 60cm (2ft) long, this great rarity from NE India has affinities to B. silletensis, but has just been described as a new species (2024). A huge evergreen with almost round shiny leaves on exceptionally long petioles to 1m, making a magnificent clump. The enormous fragrant flowers are frankly off the scale at up to 12cm across (!) and resemble small fried eggs, with eight white segments surrounding a fat yellow centre. For a pot, overwintered frost free.

Pot size: 9cm
