A hybrid of M. obovata and M. virginiana, forming an upright, semi-evergreen small to medium sized tree with glossy green leaves up to 36cm long, with palest glaucous undersides. The white flowers are remarkably strongly and deliciously fragrant, 20cm across with incurved tips to the 11 concave tepals, opening in May and continuing until mid summer.
