Photinia glomerata (prionophylla of hort.)

Misidentified in cultivation, this is the striking species rarely encountered in a few UK gardens where it is usually lusted after by plantsmen for its thick, hard, large evergreen foliage, emerging copper-red in early summer. Large heads of white flowers in July followed by crimson fruit. Best in a sheltered position, this makes a large shrub or small tree.
