Stachyurus himalaicus subsp. purpureus

Distinct amongst this most elegant genus of spring flowering shrubs in having rich pink-red flowers. Collected originally in the Upper Arun valley, E Nepal, this makes a vigorous large shrub with strong arching shoots and long pointed foliage. The branches are strung with stiffly vertically held inflorescences over winter which bear many little red flowers in spring. Best with some shelter.
