Stewartia malacodendron

A rarity in UK cultivation and equally rarely offered for sale, despite being by far the most attractive Stewartia in flower. Large rounded white flowers with a boss of purple filaments at their centres are borne in July/August on a hardy deciduous shrub or small tree to 6m tall, though usually smaller. This is used to heat in the wild and demands it here too, with all the biggest specimens in the South East, but with a warming climate this will change. Only a few available...
