Davidia involucrata

The fabled 'Handkerchief Tree'. A truly unique and exceptionally beautiful, hardy, medium sized tree for any reasonable soil, not too overly dry. Draped in May with a multitude of large white pendulous bracts, "Like huge butterflies hovering among the trees" (Wilson). Rounded fruit follow in autumn.
